For whatever reason I dont know how to change the properties of my "background" - which is the first layer thats made. I want to make it transperant so I can use a GIF on a website. How to do?....

File>New
When the dialog box pops up
Click the Tranparent option at the bottom

Then design whatever you want

When you want to save the design go to
File>Save for Web
Under settings choose a GIF setting
Then check the box marked tranparency
Finally click save...

another way to do it is simply delete the Background layer I assume you know how to do that:) LOL

Ok when I save as a GIF, with a transperant layer, the image just gets turned to complete and utter crap.....any fix for this - gets all fuzzy and stuff.

You could always try the PNG option, file size is bigger but, the quality is good

yea - tried that but of course AOL doesn't allow PNG's...freaking STEVE CASE!! -

When I do the whole delete BACKGROUND thing, and use a JPEG - i still get that white background. Someone answered in another thread that the only option to cure that is a GIF or PNG...is that the ONLY way?
