Hi guys,
I thought it would be great to do a challenge around designing a 3D landscape. You know a fantasy / sci fi landscape etc.
Hope this is ok, it's my first time to post a challenge.
So lets see what everyone comes up with.
I no nothing about 3d, so I'll pass on this one. Good luck to all of you!

emm, I don't think it's meant to be(at least I hope not since this is a PS forum). I think it's just meant to be a sci fi landscape so I hope you reconsider. :)
gosh, sci-fi, eh? Well perhaps, never did any of that either. Sounds like a challenge. Can anyone throw me some inspirational links?

emm,
do a google for a small program for terragen. It's free and gives you a nice backdrop to open up in ps to play around in and customise your scene / landscape.
i'm finaly back on the site, my old computer died, but i am back with a loaded laptop, hope it isn't to late in the week for me to start my landscape,
good luck all,
devin

Thanks, the only thing that terragen did was the landscape. Mist, planet and stars etc was done through photoshop. The girl I rendered in Poser and imported into PS and played around with.
As for Terragen, generate your terrain, play with the setitngs to get canyonism, glaciers right etc. When your happy with settings click on preview and it will do a quick render. Click on view /sculpt to select camera location. Raise / lower section there as well. When happy select render from the preview screen. When the render has completed save as a bmp and import into PS. Pretty basic rundown for you there, once you get the hang of the basics, you can start to play with water and atmosphere settings. if you need further help, let me know.

Thaks Jester..I will try to see if I can do something later.... I will ask you if I have trouble.....:)
I only have access to this crappy old 250 mHz windows 2000 piece o' you know what, it takes forever to render an image! I had to cancel and go to bed last night. I'm leaving on holliday for a couple of weeks on monday I expect. I'll try and have something in the meantime if it doesn't take a whole day just to render..
and I think both entries so far are beautiful!
I'm excited to see what comes out of this renderbusiness. I have no idea what I'm doing, clicking on all these options, changing colors etc.

Hey I quite like it. it may be my monitor but I find it hard to differentiate the craft from the shadows of the terrain. But like I said it could be my monitor....
Well done for a first attempt.
Additionally to all Terragen users, you will need the plugin on the this link to export to bmp.

Nice entries so far guys.
CJ, nice idea and looks good, the sky looks a bit illustrated compared to the "realistic" look of the 3D land but still nice overall. :)
Trax, The closest ship is the only one that detracts a bit, I think it's just so dark it just looks like a black oval. :)
George, really good idea and nice colors. :)
PM, you don't have to use Terragen, I'm gonna try to do one later tonight and I'm not gonna use it. :)

I guess I read wrong, it says sci-fi/fantasy(I don't know where I got "alien", probably a subconcious thing) so you're right on target PM. :)
As for #60, you're welcome to do it but it would be best to wait until friday so this one can run it's course. :)

Some very interesting and creative entries. And talk of #60 already. Oh my where does the time fly to? I started something in Bryce but realized I have forgotten most of what I knew. Either that or am spoiled with the features of PS.
Better late than never, so I'll keep working on it and post when done.
