Text Question

How would I make text look like it's branded into
wood ? Giving it the engraved look sort of works, but it just doesn't look the way I want. I want the text to look like it's burned into the wood.

Try this.

1> Select text or branding layer (ctrl-click layer)
2> Go to quick-mask mode
3> Filter>Texrure>Grain Horizontal (100 Intensity, 50 Contrast)
4> Invert
5> Filter>Sketch>Torn Edges (Image Balance 15, Smoothness 15, Contrast 22)
6> Invert
7> Exit quick mask mode
8> Hide Text layer
9> Select wood layer
10> Create a new adjustment layer Hue/Saturation
11> Double click Hue/Saturation layer
12> Drop the lightness down most of the way (not all - somewhere between -65 to -85 is the best range I think), crank the saturation, and change the hue to appropriate
13> Use a black brush to clean up the layer mask
14> Give the layer mask just a touch of blur if you want (no more than one or two pixels)

Should work okay...
