--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HI,

I was doing this tentacle tutorial, and I was able to create the one tentacle, then when I made a duplicate this is where I’m having problems. I make the duplicate, and then set the mode to difference. I go to the layers palate and use the drop down menu to select difference. Then the image becomes black! Is this normal? I then move the tentacle over to the side, which is black in color, and it turns aqua in color. Then I hold “alt” and click the cursor in-between the two layers (“layer1 and layer1 copy”) the little arrow appears and the aqua tentacle disappears off the screen. I then duplicate “layer1” and create “layer1 copy2” I then filter and shear that tentacle, but when moving it around if I go over the invisible tentacle that is set to difference, the tentacle on layer1 copy2 changes color.

Please help, and sorry for all the rambling.

Thanks,

Tony

Can you provide a solid link? I'm thinking that difference mode seems like a strange one, but I'd like to see what else is going on there. Try the tutorial just in normal and see what happens...

Sorry for the late reply. I see what's going on there now.

The difference is set to get an extra gradient map out of the chrome. you can do this a number of ways. This one is fine. The thing is you should be grouping the layers when they are black before you move the layer above (the alt thing). Once you have your chrome the way you like, make a layer above the top layer, link it to the two underneath, and merge linked. Then shear a duplicate again and everything should go as you expect...
