View Full Version : Weekly Project #43 - Scenic Picture
ElCafe

Once again, i apologize for being late, was traveling home for thanksgiving. Alright guys, this was the project before the site went down, but now its back up, and we are all back in business. Good work team on getting it back.
In this project we are creating a Scenic Picture. This is to be done through photoshop. If you take from a picture because you like the idea, show the picture in which you took from. Once, again, you are not taking from the photo, you are taking the idea from the photo.
Here are the rules:
optimized size: 70k
620 width x 460 height
Must have:
moon or sun
some form of water (rain, lake, river, etc.)
If you also want to put a turkey in here because its almost thanksgiving you can, extra points :P but not required.
Anything else is open. When i mean anything, i mean ANYTHING, this is to be fun and open up your imagination, so just let your wonderful minds sore. Purpose of the project is to have fun and let others see your great pictures, so dont feel nervous to post your work. Lets have fun guys!
Edit: Changed "greating" to creating and the turkey addtion

So i can't filter, distort, add too, distract from, use pieces of--a photograph? Bummer. Oh, well, I can't wait to see the ends...I love the rain....living in the NW and all, you know. Good luck all. Maybe I can post a distorted, distracted, filtered, saturated shot of the NW just for fun....

I painted this a while ago, but it has the moon and water:)

Welcome back El Café !! :roll
Questions:
Can we post more than one image ?
or
replace a previously posted one for another ?
When is closing date (and hour too please) ?
Guess that is all --sorry it is my first weekly contest :blush
Thanks :)

wilson: sorry meant "creating" not greating, changing it now. For the picture, it should be something that you did through photoshop. It is a way to better yourself through photoshop and to try new things. Good luck.
Pneal: i really like that pic a lot. I have seen that pic of yours on your website, and the first time i saw it, i just loved it.
Marthig: thank you :) You can certainly post multiple images. If you would like too post a picture up of what you have already done that is fine, as long as it is your work, and these contests, there are no winners, everyone wins, it is just to see others work, but i can make a fun due date of next sunday (11-27-05).
By the way cfire, you can also post your newly updated picture of the underwater land here if you would like, be a great place for it :)

I think I tried asking this before, but I lost my question, it may have been answered, but I missed it:
can we have stars instead of a sun or a moon?
ElCafe
11-23-2005, 09:54 AM
if there are stars, why wouldn't there be a moon? If having a moon is impossible and you have stars, i will allow that.
I cheated and used a moon brush.

sometimes the moon isn't always visible, or it may be in the portion of the sky you aren't looking at

that looks great. real nice job.
what do u mean by moon brush? is that like a default brush or some type of "Lingo" i havent heard yet?
[Edited on 11/24/2005 by wilson]
Hi Wilson.
It is from a set of planet brushes.
I got them from a forum. Someone had put up a link.
It might have been somewhere on this forum.
This is what happens with short term memory loss.:lol
You select a brush, color, click and there is your moon.

I really like that TomM! In the spirit of The Silver Surfer, but I imagine myself in the pic, but instead of a 'snow' board, we now have a stellar solar board....I wish--I mean "SWISH!" Thanks for posting!

Tom: i really like that, nice work. What is that swoosh coming around the moon towards us? that is really cool.
srove: that is fine, that will work
Freedom: Even if it is after the time, dont feel like you cannot post your picture. Even if you can't start it until after this week, dont hesitate to show it.

After seeing what has already been posted I wonder what am I doing here :blush ?! but here I go, my humble contribution. It is based on a Terragen rendering I made some time ago. It is all made in photoshop, I used some cloud brushes, hope that is not a "no no" :P

no marthig, you have the right idea. Really it is a scenic picture, it is any type of scenery with those certain qualifications. I really like your picture. Is it a watercolor look? nice work martha.

Thank you El Cafe, that's most encouraging. Yes the idea was to make it look like hand painted, but did not use the water colour filter, just wind, motion blur and the "sprayed brush filter" mainly on the sea, also used a 35mm flare in the sun. All things I always wanted to use but were not possible for the type of images needed. :D
If anyone's interested, this it the Terragen file.

Very nice work on these all. Unfortunately its already Friday and I will have no time to partake in this one...damn holiday deadlines and what not. Joe Roe I think all you need is to add a little ripple to the ship's reflection to match some of the waves and you'll be in business. Also very nice feel to the watercolor image marth. Interesting original perspective phreaky good work. Very nice lighting effects Tom and I like that you threw a few colored stars in there to make the scene pop even more. And WOW PNeal! I love all your work, so detailed and always right on the money. Hope to be in the next challenge. Keep it up everyone!!! :cheers

Good work everyone, remember, the due date is by tonight at midnight, but that doesn't mean you can't show your work in it after, so if you had an idea but just a busy week, its ok, work on it and put it up anyways

YW George !
El Cafe, then maybe by tomorrow I will finish what I had been working on during the weekend, just got more complicated than I thought. Good thing if we can still post other works.
And also look forward to the next one! :lol . I get addicted so easily :P
Very nice images.
PNeal, do I assume that is Illustrator you are working with?
What is that swoosh coming around the moon towards us?
El, if you mean the thing itself, that is something I saw on the NAPP forum.
Start with a doc about 500 px. Type in one or two large letters.
I used TM in a fancy script. Apply a strike through and an underline.
Then go nuts with the text warp sliders.

Nope, that one is Photoshop.
Great image George! It was cold where I live today - that helped warm me up.
So what would be your basic technique for doing something like that?

In view that there is not a new one and there is still time, here goes. This is a reproduction of a tempera (gouache?) I made a long time ago. During my "surrealistic" era :lol Still needs some details but guess I better stop for now :blush

Thanks Frank, I am happy you liked it :roll.
I don't have a pic but will take the original to the office and scan it. BTW the one I posted here , forgot to add, was made all in PS ! :)
I don't know who's "master" for #44 :P . Isn't there a list somewhere ? or perhaps was lost in the last "glitch" ?
Anyway, please show up !!

I love Christmas motifs; what about a xmas card ? an interior thing with a window or door showing a snowy landscape and a fireplace etc. or something around that idea ?
I suppose this must have been done many times before but it's an idea for now ;)
Regards and thanks El Cafe for this last weekly project :cheers

Sorry Tom, I should keep better track of this thread.
I just used brushes, smudge tool, a little noise here and there. Overall just basic painting.

Marta: If you want to be the host for the next project, simply open a new thread and give us the dimensions of the Christmas card and the details for the project. It seems to be a nice idea!!!
El Cafe: Thank you for being the host of Project # 43!

PNeal and George, I am glad you liked the idea !!
And thanks George for the "appointment" :P. No problem in taking care of the details, but I think we should wait for a confirmation from El Cafe ?

You know what the funny thing about this is? I was going to throw it on you before you posted because i knew you would have a good idea. I think a christmas card would be a great idea, it is coming up very soon. This is your project so you can do whatever you want, but maybe just say christmas card in general instead of having a fireplace on the card, because i dont think i have seen those kind of pics on a christmas card. So i guess my suggestion would be to just allow for an open christmas card but maybe you have to put something on it :) like i said, its your project you can have whatever you want.
Weekly Project #44 will be hosted by Marthig
