Please Help Me

i am drawing a line on my webpage and i want to make that line fade into my background color. this is what im doing but its not working can you tell me if im doing it right or wrong.

1)drawing a line with the line tool
2)rasterizing the layer
3)then i apply a layer mask
4)then i use the gradinet tool from white to black

and nothing happes it just stays white it wont blend what am i doing wrong

It should be working. Are you in RGB mode? Are you using the linear gradient?

yes i am to both questions. whats wrong

After you rasterize your line, assuming you are using the vector line tool, make a layer above the line layer, link it to your line layer, and merge linked. Then try adding your gradient mask... Also check to see if the gradient mode is on normal.
