Text Transparent

i have some text that i need to make the background transparent. can someone let me know how to do this.

Um...drop the opacity.

Can you be a little more specific. Is it for web, print, video? Do you mean you want the bg to show through the text? (if so, then fireproof's right) Or do you mean you want to save the text asa graphic and have the bg on it transparent? If this is the case then just turn off the bg layer and select Save for Web and choose either .png or .gif with tansparency checked.

i have a text that was made in photoshop and it has a white background but i dont have the psd file all i have is the gif file. and what i want to do is make the white background transparent. how do i do that, i am going to use it for a website

use the magic wand tool and select the white area. once selected, delete away the white area and u will have a transparent background....

how come when i use the magic wand tool it doesnt select the entire background i have to do it like 50 times

youl'll have to hold on the shift buttton when you are selecting the areas....to deselect areas you'll have to hold on to the control button

If its a Black text...simple black text with a white BG and your gonna lay it on a image like using it as a top layer lets say...you can either "Screen" or "Multiply" the layer and the white wikk be excluded...sometimes it works depending on the image size also! :)

To select the area quicker try changing the tolerance of your magic wand (tool options).

Also, if you use the magic wand and, it doesn't cover the entire area, use the 'select' 'similar' option. This will select similar pixels to those that are in the original selection.
