Hello everyone,

Recently, I've stumbled upon the "Apply Image" command via Images>Apply Images. (images must be same dimensions)

I found 2 arcane blending modes, "Add" & "Subtract". As usual, their explained in the help but still leaves me curious.

Add : adds the pixel values in two channels. Good way to combine nonoverlapping images in two channels.

Subtract: subtracts the pixel values in the source channel from the corresponding pixels in the target channel.

I can use the scale an offset to lighten and darken.

This "Apply Image" permanently modifies a image to your work. I don't like permanent because I'm always going back to tweak. Does anyone use this feature on a regular basis?

Regards
Fess

It was often used in the old times, when there wes no layers like for the kai power tips http://development.gurusnetwork.com/kpt/ or in the "Photoshop Channels Chops" book (that I still recommend, even if it was published long time ago.)

Add and substract are indeed useful if you play with channels: it allows you to interact with different selections, they are available as well in the calculations...

You were using PS back then? I started learning PS at v 7. Lots of heavy reading has made it a comfortable working environment...

I see that chops book get excellent reviews @ amazon......

I'll play around with the apply image command and get acquainted

Thanks for the links...

Add & Subtract are available as regular blending modes.
They are called Linear Burn and Linear Dodge.
Although, the subtract one works with pure white as 0 pure black as 255.
Then there is Linear Light which is a mix between the two.

But I still highly recommend Kai's Power Tips. There is all sorts of goodness in those articles.
Good call, Spec.

Thanks, Stroker, I forgot to post that.
I hope hat they will rename the blending modes logically... they are stuck because there are small differences between the apps (the video ones especially)
