View Full Version : CD label tut
Please, please can someone tell me how to create a cd in photoshop. I like to create a cd label for VCD's of my favorite TV shows I record.
I'd like to create the cd in photoshop and make it a jpg to bring into my Mediaface software that can print it to a label.
Thanks!!

Don't use jpeg for print. Save as a TIFF. CMYK is best. Design whatever at 300 dpi at the correct inches or cm for correct print resolution. The rest is up to you...

Hey Phil... Do you need to use CMYK at 300 dpi when using an inkjet? I have heard that 150 dpi RGB works as well.

Hey yeah, of *course* it will work. But your resolution will be low, and you will probably lose some bit information as your inkjet converts RGB to CMYK (what all printers use)... especially in heavily saturated areas, the printer won't pick up the colours which are out of the Printer's Gamut Range. Best to design in CMYK or with CMYK view mode on so there are no surprises and your printer can reproduce everything nicely. :)

Every thing I have read says for 4 color printers convert to CMYK. For 6 color printers DO NOT convert , it confuses the printer I guess.

Any program that won't rasterize your fonts is a good one. So Quark or Ill would be my choices (I only use the big three).
6 Colour printers, eh? Hmm. Yeah, you're probably right on that one... you'd have a larger gamut anyways, so you'd lose info going to CMYK. Good call, didn't think about that. Can anybody post info on 6 colour printers? I'd love some more info...

Outside dim. 4 5/8

I make my own templates for labels and inserts,it's part of the fun of working in PS:D as in fun.
