Xirr Nagesh Book Cover *mild nudity*

Spent the better part of a month and a half on this project.

Everything you see here, front cover illustration, title logo, back cover design, spine and front cover decorative ledge, was done by yours truly. The back cover, spine and front ledge will be used for the entire series of Arcane Codex source books, while the cover illo and title logo are just for use in the Dark Elf source book cover.

0 photo ref for the cover illustration. Had my chick do some quick hand poses for the Dark Elf priestess that I sketched form life, other than that, it's strait from the head. The cover illo was pretty heavily art directed, so color and style choices for the character's clothing wasn't my decision. The noble guy on the left is a little stiff, but all in all, I'm happy with the results.

The back cover, spine and front decorative ledge were done by painting one side and then duplicating and flipping it to keep both sides exact. After they were merged I came in a painted some little details, mostly nicks and scratches and such.

Because that's what my client asked for. The cover is for a German book, thus nudity a suggestive sexual content is OK. Thanks for taking a second to comment. :)

That reminds me, maybe I should have added a nudity warning to this thread... I think I'll go do that now. ;)

Sue~ Hey sweetheart, thanks for taking a moment to comment. :) His right hand is supposed to be "gathering magical eldritch fire", or something like that. The stuff swirling around the flames is a bunch of magic runes. Or at least, that's what I was trying to pull off. Admittedly it could be a little better. For some reason that guy just came out stiff and the magic he's gathering is no exception. ;)

I don't know how interesting of a read it would be to you, it's for a role playing game system. So, unless you're into that sort of thing, you'd probably find it to be kinda boring...

i would'nt stress about the 'noble guy' its easy too get knotted up about tiny details when you've spent so long on a project.
i think he is looking stiffer due to the composition opposite the ghostly bloke who is obviously very fluid.

cracking stuff, particularly if fantasy is not totally you're thing, that makes it all the more admirable.

I think their going to be doing an English translation with a censored cover, but that won't be out for over a year or so.

John Hughes~ A tutorial for this piece would be almost pointless. I'm not a guy who's big in to "tricks". I don't use filters, I use very few layers, etc.. Pretty much just using traditional painting/drawing methods in a digital environment.

I've got a hair tutorial in Colin's new book you might want to check out, but other than that, I don't have much to offer at the moment. Oh wait, on second thought...
