Ok, I think this may be in the wrong place, but I don't know where to put it :(. Anyways, I'm thinking about buying a tablet, and im trying to figure out what to buy. I don't really have the money for a industrial grade one, so I'm thinking the Graphire 2 and another one by Aiptek. I got a few questions, and any answers would be appreciated.

1) Does the size of the tablet really matter? As in, I found one that's 12x9, and one thats 4.5x6. Which is probably better, taking in the cost ($145 for the bigger, $70 for the smaller) A lot of them seem sort of small, like the Graphire2.

2) Does the brand really make much difference? If size matters, I might go with the Aiptek one, because it's 8x6. But if it's a lot harder to use, I would go with the Wacom one, because I've been hearing great things about it. It also comes with Photoshop LE (or Photoshop Elements 1.0), and Corel Painter.

Anyone have any suggestions or something? I really want this tablet, because I love drawing things, and this is perfect for my photoshop work.

Good call,

Thanks. Also, for anyone that's wondering, this isn't for editing photos, but more for drawing. I mostly draw anime etc. even though im not very good :lol. So I'm not sure if the Graphire2 is good for me, because it's supposedly mostly for editing photos?

EDIT: Also, would this tablet be compatible with Photoshop 7, or at least can the sketch/drawing be imported into the program?

I have a intuos2 from wacom 6X8. It's the only one I've ever owned but from everything I've heard, it's the best but don't quote me on that. and yes, it works with PS7

349.99 US dollars + tax

They make some smaller and cheaper and they also make some larger and more $$$$$. I think the one that actually fits right on your moniter cost around 4 grand.

I have a buddy of mine from Zbrush that originally bought a cheaper one for like 100 dollars and was very unhappy with it. I would suggest if you're going to get one, get a good one or you will just waste your money.

Would that 12x9 be good? It would seem to suit me well for the size of the pics I like to draw ;).

EDIT: It's also only $149.99. The only thing I'm not sure about is the program that comes with it, and the brand (Aiptek).

6x8, but I don't have one. I did that with a friend at his house (a collaborative project, if you will ;))...I felt so free, it's a really good feeling to have that much control over anything...in Photoshop, that is, hehe.

Can't wait to get one of my own, but I'm having budget problems

EDIT: That was an Intuos2, btw. From what I've heard from people on this board and others, it's most likely the best one to get.

tablets are expensive. I am not sure why, perhaps the same strange reason a mouse can cost $99 just for some stupid buttons. But I dont think you really need one thats bigger than 5x7. I have the graphire2 and I am very used to it. The only time I wish it were bigger is when I am using the mouse that came with it opposed to the pen. I suppose it depends on what you wanna spend, but if I were you i would get a small one and if you are really into painting and such, upgrade after a while. Dont spend $400 or so for just another gadget you dont use.

Hm.......... Can you use this and your mouse in conjunction? As in, does this completely take over your mouse pad? Or can those two work in tandem?

EDIT-I'll probably get one that's 8x6. Is the zoom function on the tablet a really big factor?
