Okay, I have to post something, and yeah, I figured this was the best place for it. Okay, I'm just sorting out stuff on bit depth.
Assuming we're in 8-bit colour mode we have:
8 bits for greyscale mode
16 bits for duotone, or two colour eps
24 bits for RGB
32 bits for CMYK
So I just got a scanner that does 48-bit colour. Does this mean it scans 16-bit RGB? Or is it something else?
