Just a little question for you gurus. My adsl connexion sucks. sometimes it works fine but when I stay in a thread a while and click on a link to get back or somewhere else my browser won't start. I have to wait about 30 seconds and it works. I'm using IE6 and it did the same with netscape.
Thanks for any help

itīs just an idea...
perhhaps u get auto disconected after some minutes of doing nothing (reading a thread)
and when u click on a link, you get re-connected?
perhaps u need to change this idle-time...
like said above, just an idea!
merry xmas, my friend!

i dont know if this will help but it cant hurt
two things actually:
first one there is a setting somewhere in your internet settings to disconnect if your connection is idle
(control panel>
internet options>
connections "tab" (i dont know about adsl but dial up has connections here)>
highlight the connection>
click "settings">
in dial up settings click "advanced">
uncheck "disconnect if idle for XX minutes" and "disconnect when connection may no longer be needed">
ok>
ok>
ok.
that might not apply to you because of the adsl connection i dont know ive always had dial up. no harm in trying though.
the other thing
set your browser to check for changes how frequently you want it to.
control panel>
internet settings>
on the first tab (general) go down to "temporary internet files" click settings>
in the check for newer versions for stored pages click the "Every visit to the page" radio button>
ok>
ok.
if that helps?
good luck ill think of what else it could be (any other symptoms?)

I'm not sure if it's the same with ADSL, but I know on cable we have to reset our IP address from time to time, because sometimes the same address is accidentally assigned to two different machines. This may be what's going on (but I don't know what ASDL is). Does your IP renew when you log on? Or is it relatively static like it is for me (only changing about every week or so or when I force a IP renew)?
Also, TraXter, did you listen to Ratt in the 80s? Your signature TOTALLY brings back memories... :D

[From the world of tech support c/o my brother...]
Ok, if there is no router. The commands are
IPCONFIG /RELEASE
IPCONFIG /RENEW
[Go to Start>Run and type "command" to get into the dos shell to run these]
If is is Windows 98 or ME, you can also use WINIPCFG for a graphical interface [Type this from the Run menu]. You can then select the network adapter from the drop down box and click RELEASE and RENEW buttons.
