I've been looking into getting a graphics tablet, and was wondering what someone would recommend. I dont need a high dollar professional outfit, just something basic (and cheap is good!). the Wacom Graphire2 looks good, but I've also been looking at some cheaper ones from Aiptek. Can anybody help me out, give me some ideas on what I should be looking for? thanks

I'd like to get one of the bigger ones (Intuos or something I think?) buuttt, they're like 400 bucks, way to much. the smaller one will have to do. the aiptek I mentioned does have a larger one for around 130, but I think the wacom would be better anyways.

here's the aiptek - http://www.aiptek.com/index2.php
I was looking at tablets on ebay, and found a bunch of wacom stuff. Its all expensive, but the individual pieces seem pretty reasonable. is it possible to buy the tablet, pen, and mouse separate, or do you have to buy the whole package? are parts interchangeable between different models?

:o WOW I just checked the link, they have a 12 x 9 refurbished tablet for $120.00. I'm half tempted to by 1 for a spare. If anyone has 1 or buy's 1 PLEASE let us know how well they work and wether you like them or not.

I can't speak for aiptek, never having used one, but I most certainly can speak for Wacom. You can't go wrong. I have a Graphire, and love it. Before that, I had a 4x6 ArtZ, which lasted for years, and still would work, except it has an ASB interface, which my new Mac doesn't have.

Besides price (which I realize is important), look for support, and ask around, as you're doing.

I think all of us with tablets have WACOM, at least I've never read any others mentioned, but $120.00 for a 12 x 9 back up sounds pretty good to me. :D

thanks for all the help. I'm thinking I'm gonna go with the aiptek. I want the larger drawing area, and I cant afford that with the wacom.
