hey whats up all...

I am in college for computer graphics, and web design, I was wondering what you guys would have to say about my FIRST ever web sites...

The first is HTML, and the second is a link to the Flash page that i had to do.

Jamar Signs (http://www.jamarsigns.com)

Time In Seconds (http://www.jamarsigns.com/TiS_Final/index.html)

The clock on the splash intro is still under construction because I had to turn it in for a grade LOL, so go ahead and hate it LOL...

Let me know what you all think

Very clean and eye-catching design on Jamar Signs. Just a couple of suggestions, though. I would change the rollovers to color instead of italic type. If you had time, I would try to incorporate some type of neon effect. After all, this is a sign company. On the samples page, I would blur the backgrounds to add more emphasis on the signs. Good luck!

eh..
The HTML one's laying out isn't very well thought through.
First, you can't just slam a HUGE image as background. I'm on 1152*870 and it tiles like hell.

Second, these huge bevelings don't look very appealing or professional, try to minimize the "eyecandy" there? *cough*..pretty boring with the gray too..*cough* :D

Third,
why use those font face="blahblah tags when you have CSS?? Same goes for other formatting you have there.
The link colours in the body-tag?
You HAVE CSS there, but you only use that for "text-decoration:none;"? lol.. doesn't make sense.

I know I sound like an asshole, just trying to give you strong pointers, you ARE studying WEBDESIGN ffs. ;)

*notices more crap code* ...grr..
--> onMouseOver="this.style.fontStyle='italic

...look slike you've been coding styles on top of each other.. It's BEST to just learn a bit of CSS, and use that for all formatting. That's what it's for. :)

Ok, I do understand this was your first thing, I just wanted to make some points. :)

*catches breath*

and on to the flash one...

First question, why flash? Ok, "had to do".... I guess you had to do it in FLASH? That explains it. :P

It's better layed out.

The first definite turn off is using default flash sounds.. >_< ...most people know that it's a default sound, at that's more funny than impressive, you know what I mean?

I can't say I like the colors, or the fonts, but it's a matter of taste I guess.

Ok I'm done. :D
Keep studying and surf alot of sites to get some inspiration! :)

aww, I'm sorry!!

It's just..if you're planning on doing stuff for WWW as a living, I think you need strong pointers for the future.
Didn't mean to put you down!

And quite frankly, you did better than I did concerning the 2 first sites.

All I'm saying is that getting grasp of basic HTML / CSS is something you really need to do for making decent stuff for the web! :)

People who call themselves "webdesigners" nowadays can't even code decent HTML without a WYSIWYG editor, and honestly, I think that's just silly.

Please, don't let me put you down, I just think that honesty rules over "kindness" in this kinds of things.

I have seen way too many potentially great talents go to waste because of replies on forums like this one, when all they get it "cool man!" and "wow, nice effect there"...you know what I mean?

You have great potential, you do, just do lots and lots, and have ambitions! :)

I truly hope that you will continue posting your stuff here.

thanks for the new post, it helped me get my head back together from the last one...

I am not going to lie, and say I know everything, because really I don't know that much, although I got a B in the class, I will be the first to admit that the code was very sloppy to begin with, and the same with the flash site, there are many problems with both, but the JaMar is my dads company, and he loves the site, and won't let me change it LOL... I plan on putting my own site up in the near future, and I would really like some advice on how to get it started, and after viewing your website just a minute ago, I am mad because you took my color scheme...LOL, anyway thanks for the clarification, and the complement, and your honesty, I read it at work after a bad night, so I took it a little harder than I should have...

Thanks again...

Of course, none of us expect you to produce top quality work at your first and second try. Keep in mind; there's no mistakes and rules in art. In art, the biggest mistake is being afraid to make mistakes and the biggest rule to follow is not to follow any rule.
