Photoshop CS6.1 and Creative Cloud advice in our Free Magazine | CS6 Super guide is here

I'm very lucky to count among my friends some of the best and most influential Photoshop and Creative Suite users and instructors. Because of this, I'm able to pull in some favors and assemble an amazing team of writers. The CS6 guide has the best that we have ever had and the pages are jammed full of goodies. I've had people tell me that I should be charging for this because the information is better that what you find in a lot of paid publications. But if you know anything about me, I love to to make stuff free whenever I can. It's a way to give back to the community that supports us and … [Read more...]

Why YOU should care about digital video

Let me pose a question to you. Why would you want to create video? This question isn't aimed at those who are creating videos all day long as professional videographers. I'm asking photographers, designers and hobbyists. Sure, you've heard about the HDSLR revolution, the fact that just about any camera (including cell phone cameras) can now shoot HD video. Maybe it's an unused feature for you. Maybe you have even fired off a few shots with mixed results. Maybe you have even edited a couple in iMovie. But why do you need to care about video? What's the fuss all about? Let me tell … [Read more...]

Reflections on the Route CS6 tour so far and some pictures.

tiltshift-timessquare

I just returned from a whirlwind tour of the East Coast. I had a fantastic time. it was great to visit Austin, Dallas, Atlanta, Washington DC, Miami, Boston and New York City. I have been teaching full-day Photoshop seminars to photographers and designers. It's a lot of fun to travel, however at times it gets a little bit tiring. Literally visiting a different city every two days can definitely mess with your schedule. It was very exciting to see a lot of café members out on the road. The turnout at the different cities was fantastic and people were very enthusiastic. We had a lot of … [Read more...]

Apple iBooks Textbooks. The end of books?

Text books are heavy, If you have ever carried around a bag full of books, you'll agree. Text books are obsolete the minute they come out. Thirdly they are expensive, with little resale value, as they are always changing. On another note, in some places, there aren't enough textbooks to go around. For example, I grew up in New Zealand where we didn't buy our books, the state provided them, but budgets meant that students had to share. I actually gave up my dream of becoming an airline pilot because I was in a physics class with 32 students and only 15 text books. By the 2nd semester I still … [Read more...]

Digital Darkroom at the Annenberg Space for Photography

DigitalDarkroom

Today I had the honor to attend the VIP advance preview of the Digital Darkroom exhibit at the Annenberg Space for Photography. Russell Brown, senior creative director at Adobe, is the curatorial advisor who – along with Patricia Lanza from the Annenberg - has thoughtfully selected 17 artists from the US, France and the UK to celebrate their craft. There are over 80 images in this exhibit that represent the surreal, the ingenious and inventive minds that provide us a glimpse into altered realties. This was a very inspiring event. I had the opportunity to meet Jerry Uelsmann, who is … [Read more...]
